Premium plugin (addon wordpress-toolkit). One screen in the hosting panel to find, install, update, copy, secure and sign in to every WordPress site of an account, and one list in the Host Manager of all the WordPress sites on the server. It is included in the Unlimited & All Plugins package and sold separately for Solo and Pro.
Switching it on
- Add the addon on your licence and press Check now on the Licence page. See The licence key.
- Plugins → Manage Plugins: upload the plugin ZIP if it is not there, then switch WordPress Toolkit on.
- Make sure the feature
wp_toolkitis in the packages' feature lists, under Packages → Feature Manager.
The hosting panel already shows a WordPress Toolkit tile under Software. Without the plugin the tile opens a page that explains the tool; with it on, the tile opens the Toolkit.
For the customer
Software → WordPress Toolkit. The Toolkit looks for WordPress (a wp-config.php, up to three folders deep) in the document root of every domain of the account, and lists what it finds under WordPress sites: the site and a wp-admin link, its path, its version, and these buttons.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Update | Updates the WordPress core. First it makes a backup of the files and the database into ~/backups; if the backup fails, nothing is changed. Your wp-content folder and wp-config.php are kept. The answer says from 6.7 to 6.8. |
| Clone to staging | Copies the site to a new folder (staging, or the site's folder plus -staging), makes a new database and user for the copy, copies the tables and fixes the addresses so the copy works on its own address. Test updates there first. |
| Security | The security check (below). |
| Sign in | Signs you in to wp-admin without a password. The Toolkit puts a helper file in the site that works once, for 10 minutes, and then deletes itself. A button Open the dashboard appears. |
| Reset password | Opens a small form: a user name (empty means the first administrator) and a new password of at least 6 characters. |
Install WordPress
The last card installs a new site. Fields: Domain, Directory (a new empty folder, or empty for the domain root), Site title, Admin username, Admin password, Admin e-mail. It downloads WordPress, creates the database and the user, writes wp-config.php with fresh security keys and sets up the administrator. The login details are shown once.
The security check
Security lists these checks, each Passed or Needs attention with a plain explanation, and a fix button where one can be applied for you:
wp-config.phppermissions (fix: set 0640)- core file permissions
xmlrpc.phpblocked (fix: add a rule to.htaccess)- directory listing off (fix:
Options -Indexes) - debug mode off (fix:
WP_DEBUGfalse) - the dashboard file editor disabled (fix:
DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT) readme.htmlandlicense.txtremoved (fix: delete them)- database table prefix (a note when it is the default
wp_) - no PHP files in
wp-content/uploads(a hint to run the Malware Scanner)
For the host
Software → WordPress Toolkit in the Host Manager lists all WordPress sites found in the accounts you can see, with a Show button to look at one. Customers manage their own sites; the list is for support and for finding old versions.
Settings
Plugins → Manage Plugins → WordPress Toolkit → Settings has one field: WordPress archive address. Empty uses https://wordpress.org/latest.zip. Set a mirror on your own server, or a file:// path, to install without outside access and to pin a version.
Notes
- The Toolkit updates the WordPress core. Plugins and themes are updated from the WordPress dashboard, which you can open with Sign in.
- Every action is written to the activity log with the account name.
- Backups go into the account's disk quota. Delete old ones from
~/backupsin the File Manager. - Pair it with the Malware Scanner and Auto SSL for a safe, ordinary WordPress hosting plan.
