Updating to a new version
Upgrade to Latest Version with its backup, the update ZIP by hand, db_update, what is never touched, checks afterwards, going back, and System Update for the server itself.
An update replaces the panel's program files and then brings the database up to date. Your settings, accounts, domains, mail, databases and the config.php file are never touched. Plan five minutes, and take a backup first.
What an update never touches
config.php- the database login and the secret key.installed.lock- the mark that the panel is installed.data/- the backups, logs, temporary files and, on a demo host, the account homes.- Everything outside the panel folder: the accounts' homes under
/home, the web server, mail and DNS configuration.
The update ZIP does not even carry those files. Your own languages in languages/<code>.json and plugins you added yourself are kept as they are, because the ZIP does not contain files with those names.
Before you update
- Read the change log of the new version on your account at license.faruk.bd, or on the Upgrade page itself.
- Make a backup of the panel's database:
mysqldump aiohpanel > aiohpanel-before.sql(the root login is in/root/.my.cnf). The panel makes a ZIP of its own files, but not of its database. - Check Backup → Backup Configuration has recent account backups.
The two ways
1. From the Host Manager
Software → Upgrade to Latest Version (root only) has these cards:
- Version - the installed version, the newest version the License Center knows, a status (Up to date, Update available, Could not reach the licence server), when it was checked and What is new with the notes. Check now asks again; the answer is kept for ten minutes.
- Download address - Release zip URL, the address the update ZIP is fetched from. Your account at license.faruk.bd shows it. Save it once.
- Update now - tick I have a copy of the database and want to update now and press Update now. The panel downloads the ZIP, writes a backup ZIP of the current files to
data/backups/pre-upgrade-<version>-<date>.zip, and lays the new files over the old. Do not close the page until it answers. - Backups made before an update - the eight latest backup ZIPs.
- Upgrade log - each step, also kept in
data/logs/upgrade.log.
The zip extension must be on in PHP, or the page says so. If a file cannot be written, the update stops with a message, and the old files are in the pre-upgrade ZIP.
2. By hand
Download AIOhPanel-<version>-update.zip from your account, upload it to the server and extract it over the panel folder (/usr/local/aiohpanel on a server, or the folder on your demo host). On a server:
cd /usr/local/aiohpanel
unzip -o /root/AIOhPanel-1.0.1-update.zip
chown -R aiohpanel:aiohpanel .
aiohpanel db:update
db_update
After the files are replaced, the database needs the new tables and columns. Run it with either:
- the command
aiohpanel db:update, or db_update.phpin the browser: sign in to the Host Manager as root, then openhttps://<hostname>:2087/db_update.php.
It creates missing tables, runs every migration step once (each step is remembered, so running it twice is safe), seeds defaults and prints a report such as done 1.0.1-something and schema 1.0.0 / panel 1.0.1. A line starting FAILED names the step and the reason; fix that and run it again.
After the update
- Open the Home page; the version is in the left menu footer.
- Run
aiohpanel statusor look at Service Status. - Press Check now on the Licence page.
- Open Plugins → Manage Plugins: a plugin that needs a newer panel says so. Upload newer plugin ZIPs there.
- If something looks wrong in the browser, clear its cache once.
Going back
Extract data/backups/pre-upgrade-<version>-<date>.zip over the panel folder. It holds the files from before. If the update changed the database, load the SQL dump from step 2 of Before you update as well, so the files and the database match again.
Updating the server software
Software → System Update lists the operating system's pending packages (apt or dnf), updates them in the task queue and can apply security updates, or all updates, every night. Update Server Software and Update Preferences show the versions of the services and the panel. These are separate from updating AIOhPanel itself.
